Mahtomedi High School (MHS) students recently displayed their History Day Projects at school. Students and staff were able to do a gallery walk, view the presentations, and talk to students about their research. Students choose a topic that relates to an annual theme (the 2025 theme is Rights and Responsibilities in History), research that topic, and present their research in one of five presentation categories: Research Paper, Exhibit, Documentary, Performance, or Website.
Our eighth-grade Mahtomedi Middle School students took a trip over to MHS to view the presentations, document their observations and reflections about the projects, and think about their future projects when they get to ninth grade!
As a part of the social studies curriculum at MHS, students engage in History Day projects. History Day projects teach students to conduct in-depth research, use primary and secondary sources, read a variety of texts, analyze and synthesize information, and write and present historical content. Students demonstrate voice and choice by finding their connection to the topic and using their passion for certain presentation categories to share the information. Students may enter their projects into History Day competitions at school, regional, state, and national levels.
