Meet Mahtomedi Community Education instructor Kathy Simmer!

Kathy Simmer teaches history classes in our adult category of courses. Ms. Simmer’s background includes studying library science and teaching in St. Paul Public Schools for 35 years. Her classes span 65 different topics and have included the Civil War, Secret Service, presidents, and famous Americans. Ms. Simmer shared this about her classes, “I have a passionate interest in history and how it influences the present and the future. My classes cover various topics and I try to include the little-known juicy details that make history interesting and surprising.”

The history classes Ms. Simmer teaches make an impact on her students and the community. A family member of a student recently shared with her that attending her classes was a highlight in his life and that he “enjoyed learning new things about old events.” Ms. Simmer also makes an impact on our greater community by donating her entire speaker’s fee to the Alzheimer's Association.

She shared this about Mahtomedi Community Education, “ Community Education helps people stay sharp by offering new and interesting information and ideas in a warm, friendly atmosphere. It gets them out of the house and meeting other people.
