Congratulations to Nick Merges, a fourth-grade teacher at O.H. Anderson (OHA)Elementary School who was recently recognized by the Mahtomedi School Board for outstanding leadership at Mahtomedi Public Schools. The Mahtomedi School Board awards recognize the leadership and contributions staff members across our district are making to advance our strategic plan.
Mr. Merges has been teaching for 10 years. He was a 5th-grade teacher in Utah for 5 years prior to coming to Mahtomedi. Principal Susie Prather gave the award presentation and shared several ways that Nick is living the strategic plan. During her presentation, she shared how Nick supports students to find their passion, utilizes innovative instructional practices, and partners with families and the community. OHA colleague Kelsey Geis shared this, “Mr. Merges is an innovator - he is always looking for clever ways to improve his instruction and that of others; he shares the great ideas he has with his colleagues so that all students at OHA benefit. Not only does Nick’s others-focused mindset make OHA a better place for students to learn, but his positivity, welcoming demeanor, and joy for teaching make our school a better place to work!”
The award presentation also included quotes from some of his students, including these quotes from fourth-grade students:
⭐️George Herschbach: “I like Mr. Merges because he is kind, fun, respectful, and a good teacher.”
⭐️Clara Whitson: “He makes the class really fun with dad jokes and playing 4 square with us. He is really supportive.”
