On Friday, November 8th, while our students were away from school, our staff participated in professional development sessions across the district, centered on curriculum enhancement and collaborative learning. With the addition of 10 more minutes of instructional time during the school day this year, teachers now have two extra professional development days. These dedicated professional learning days support our teachers to deepen and enrich their learning so that they can be even more ready to meet students’ needs.
Each school determined the focus of the November 8th training. O.H Anderson (OHA) Elementary staff participated in a Functional Phonics + Morphology training hosted by the Center for Applied Research & Educational Improvement (CAREI) at the University of Minnesota. Functional Phonics + Morphology is a newly implemented curriculum this year focused on building reading and spelling skills in our third through fifth graders via hands-on, engaging activities. Following this training, OHA teachers will integrate this curriculum into their classrooms.
