Gymnastics in MHS gym

Gymnastics through Mahtomedi Community Education connects children of all ages in our community. Starting at the preschool level, three to five-year-olds can try the balance beam and uneven bars through Tiny Tumbler Gymnastics. Tumblers are coached by Ashley Walsh, a Mahtomedi alum and Mahtomedi High School assistant coach.

Elementary-age boys and girls explore the sport in Beginners Gymnastics, Advanced Gymnastics, and Advanced Beginners Gymnastics. These classes range from no experience to being able to complete a cartwheel, a round off, and a back walkover.

Gymnastics switches at the middle school level from community education to a winter sport for grades seven through twelve with junior varsity and varsity teams.

On October 26 and November 16, the gymnastics cycle comes full circle when the varsity team hosts the Junior Zephyr Gymnastics Clinic. The clinic is the team’s annual fundraiser. For kindergarten through fifth grade, the varsity team provides games and gymnastics stations. All skill levels are welcome. You can register for the clinic on Eleyo.

Varsity co-captain Lucy Otto said, “Last year’s fundraiser was very fun, and the high school team had a great time getting to know the younger gymnasts and watching them learn new skills. I think that the kids really enjoyed being coached by the older girls who are in the same sport as them.”
