Have you noticed the new flashing lights near O.H. Anderson (OHA) Elementary School? Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) are devices that flash lights to alert drivers that pedestrians are crossing the road. RRFBs help increase safety and make it easier to cross the street.

Thanks to the advocacy of our Mahtomedi Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Committee which is organized by Mahtomedi Community Education, we have a new RRFB and sidewalks near O.H. Anderson Elementary School for bikers and walkers. A big thank you to the City of Mahtomedi for supporting the Committee’s efforts for safe paths to school in our community.
Walker Reminders: Press the button every time you cross, make sure vehicles are stopping and make eye contact with any drivers, check both ways to make sure traffic is clear, and then cross while staying alert.
Driver Reminders: Watch for pedestrians, stop for walkers at the crosswalks (even if lights aren’t flashing), give plenty of space when stopping, and never pass another vehicle.
