Congratulations to O.H. Anderson Elementary School fourth-grade teacher Nick Merges, one of 20 teachers in North America, to be named a nominee for the National Hockey League & National Hockey League Players' Association's Most Valuable Teacher award.

Mr. Merges has been a teacher for eight years. He began his career as a fifth-grade teacher after graduating from college with an Elementary Education degree. He strives to show students how the curriculum they are learning in the classroom is present in their everyday lives. He uses the NHL’s Future Goals program with his students, which teaches science and math skills using interactive gameplay and real-world scenarios. Outside of the classroom, Mr. Merges plays hockey in his local Adult Rookie League.
