What does the future of physical education look like? Students at Wildwood and O.H. Anderson Elementary Schools know the answer.
Both schools are equipped with the most state-of-the-art physical education tool available, the “Lü Interactive Playground.” With its high-definition laser projector, movement detection camera, and light and sound system, the Lü transforms any space into an active and immersive educational space, encouraging students to be engaged physically, intellectually, and socially-emotionally. The system supports all athletic levels, helping students as they find the joy and excitement in learning new physical fitness skills and working in teams where they can grow their own academic and athletic talents.
Through the Lü activities, students develop athletic skills while also working to develop other life skills such as confidence, teamwork, listening, sportsmanship, and cooperation.
Physical education teachers are also able to bring in other subjects along with physical fitness, such as math where students solve math equations by throwing balls at correct answers on the wall. They also support well-being activities like mindfulness, stretching, and breathing exercises. Teachers have reported greater engagement and motivation from students as well as more time for the joyful play associated with learning physical education.
Equipping our elementary schools with this exceptional learning tool was made possible by the advocacy of our elementary physical education teachers, Sarah Torborg and Mitch Wanner, as well as the generosity of the Mahtomedi Area Educational Foundation and the Mahtomedi Elementary Parent Teacher Organization.
