Device Support
Technology Support for Students
Mahtomedi Public Schools students who are experiencing technical issues with their devices or district computer systems should follow these processes.
Students who are in school and having a tech issue
If a student is in school and has an issue with their device, they should go to the media center. If necessary, the media center will check out a loaner device and power cord to the student and will fill out a work order on their behalf. These loaner devices can be taken home by the students. Once their device is fixed it will be returned to the media center and the student will be contacted to stop by, pick it up, and return their loaner device.
If the student’s issue is with a district system (Zephyr Apps, online textbook, etc.), the student should go to the media center. The media center staff can resolve some issues (e.g. resetting Zephyr Apps passwords) or they will have/help the student submit a work order via the Student Help Desk Google Form so a technology department rep can follow up with them.
Students who are at home and having a tech issue
First, check out these technology tips and troubleshooting for Chromebooks and iPads.
If a student is at home and has an issue with their device or a district system (Zephyr Apps, online textbook, etc.), the student/family can wait until the next school day and the student can go to the media center. If a student is offsite for an extended period, they can submit a work order via the Student Help Desk Google Form and a technology department rep will follow up with them the next school day. The Student Help Desk Google Form is monitored Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Support will not respond after hours, on weekends, or on holidays.
If the issue is with a device, the student may be directed to go to the media center the next day they are in school. If necessary, the media center will check out a loaner device and power cord to the student and will fill out a work order on their behalf. These loaner devices can be taken home by the students. Once their device is fixed it will be returned to the media center and the student will be contacted to stop by, pick it up, and return their loaner device.
Students who forget their device or their device is not charged
Students are expected to have their devices at school with a charged battery. A limited number of devices are available in the media center to be checked out if a student forgets their device or it isn't charged. If one is available, these can be checked out to students for use during the day at the school but must be returned at the end of the day. Checking out a device to a student is a courtesy, and if a student regularly forgets their device it may need to be discussed with the student and parents/guardians.
